US Paycheck Calculator (2025)
Your take-home pay is your gross pay minus three layers of tax: federal income tax (2025 brackets, after the $15,750 single / $31,500 joint standard deduction), FICA at 7.65% (6.2% Social Security up to $176,100 plus 1.45% Medicare), and your state's income tax — which is $0 in the nine no-income-tax states and up to 13.3% at the top in California. A single filer on $60,000 in Texas, for example, takes home about $50,338 a year.

How paycheck tax is calculated
Step 1 — annualise. Gross pay per period is multiplied by the number of periods (52 weekly, 26 biweekly, 24 semimonthly, 12 monthly).
Step 2 — federal income tax. Subtract the 2025 standard deduction for your filing status, then apply the graduated federal brackets below.
Step 3 — FICA. Social Security takes 6.2% of wages up to $176,100; Medicare takes 1.45% of all wages, plus a 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax on wages above $200,000 (single) or $250,000 (joint).
Step 4 — state income tax. Each state page applies that state's own 2025 rate or brackets, standard deduction and personal exemption. Local taxes are excluded.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my take-home pay?
Annualise your gross pay, subtract federal income tax (after the standard deduction), FICA (7.65% up to the Social Security cap), and your state's income tax. What is left is your net pay; divide by the number of pay periods for the per-check figure. This page's calculator does exactly that.
What is FICA and how much is it in 2025?
FICA is Social Security (6.2% on wages up to $176,100 in 2025) plus Medicare (1.45% on all wages, with an extra 0.9% on wages above $200,000 single / $250,000 joint). Most employees pay a combined 7.65% on most of their wages.
What is the federal standard deduction for 2025?
After the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the 2025 standard deduction is $15,750 single, $31,500 married filing jointly and $23,625 head of household.
Why is my actual paycheck different from the estimate?
Real withholding follows your Form W-4 and IRS Publication 15-T percentage tables, and most paychecks also have pre-tax deductions (401(k), health insurance, HSA/FSA) that lower taxable wages. Credits, bonuses and local taxes also change the result. Treat this as a close estimate, not a payroll record.
Which states have no income tax?
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wyoming levy no tax on wages in 2025.
Does this calculator include state tax?
Yes — pick your state in the calculator and it applies that state's 2025 flat rate or brackets, its standard deduction and personal exemption where they exist. Local city/county taxes are not included.
