About NetPayLabs
NetPayLabs is a free collection of US paycheck and tax calculators built for workers who want a straight answer to a simple question: what will actually land in my bank account?
Methodology
Every estimate follows the same auditable steps used throughout the site:
- Annualise gross pay from the pay frequency you enter.
- Subtract the federal standard deduction for your filing status and apply the IRS graduated brackets.
- Apply FICA: Social Security 6.2% up to the annual wage base, Medicare 1.45%, plus the 0.9% Additional Medicare Tax above the statutory thresholds.
- Apply your state's 2025 flat rate or brackets after its standard deduction and personal exemption, where they exist.
- Split the annual result back into per-paycheck figures, and show the effective and marginal rates.
Sources
- Federal brackets and standard deductions: IRS Rev. Proc. 2024-40, as increased by the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (2025).
- Social Security wage base ($176,100 for 2025): Social Security Administration.
- Overtime and tips deductions: Internal Revenue Code §225 and §224 (One Big Beautiful Bill Act) and IRS Notices 2025-62 and 2025-69.
- State rates, brackets, standard deductions and exemptions: Tax Foundation, State Individual Income Tax Rates and Brackets, 2025 (as of January 1, 2025), cross-checked against state tax authority publications.
What we simplify
To stay instant and private (everything runs in your browser), we do not model: your Form W-4 elections and extra withholding; pre-tax deductions such as 401(k) contributions and health premiums; tax credits; state benefit-recapture rules, deduction phase-outs at very high incomes and taxpayer credits that some states substitute for exemptions; or local city/county income taxes. Where a simplification can move the number materially, the state page says so.
